Being a spouse to a service member is truly a blessing to you and to the others around you. It places you in a unique position, especially with so many people serving overseas right now. It is my hope that this column will provide another place of support for all of the spouses in the greater Houston area. Events, stories, pictures, and other resources will be shared here by you and me. Feel free to send me information about what is happening with you, your family, and marriage. The most important thing to remember is that non-profit does not mean for-loss. You still have to make money. The only real difference between a non-profit and a for-profit business is where any extra money goes. For any organization to remain viable, you have to have more money coming in than you have going out. What happens to that excess between what comes in and what goes out is what makes the difference between a non-profit and a for-profit business. In a non-profit, the excess stays in the karbala to help it achieve its mission. In a for-profit business, the excess (the profit) is distributed to the owners of the business. It’s that simple.
River Bend Nature Center is partnering with the Faribault Golf & Country Club Top View Grill in an effort to fundraise for the nature center. When people dine at the program Dine Out for River Bend Nature Center, area restaurants host dining hours to benefit the center. When you dine at the facility from 4-8pm, a portion of the non profit organization goes to help fund River Bend. Treat yourself to dinner out and let Top View Grill satisfy your craving for anything from Chicken Marsala to Grilled Salmon. and many things in between.
Big Bird is more than just a politico. Sesame Street is about philanthropy and advancement. Parents should stand up and be more than careless sitters. Election candidates should be a little less petty and a bit more classy.
You can also listen to the way you talk about stuff. Is it in the present tense or past tense? “Oh yes, I love that dress, it looks great on me” or “I use to look great in that dress.” There’s a big difference in those two statements. If it ‘use’ to do something for you, let it go.
A major consideration in backing up your files is the size of the media that you will need. Optical discs have very limited space. Writable DVDs have around 4.3 Gigabytes of storage. CDs, on the other hand, only have 700MB. Portable hard drives have a much larger capacity. It can go as high as 500 Gigabytes which is roughly 116 DVDs. If you have lots of files, it sounds more economical to store it in a large portable hard drive rather than lots of optical discs.
If none of the higher than choices of reusing your recent electronics work for you, then there are straightforward ways that to recycle your unwanted electronics.
